(Overall) Strategies for writing competitions

For students who are passionate about social science, writing competitions are definitely a priority. Here are some advices.

  1. Do research on EVERYTHING

What kind of competition is it? Fiction? Nonfiction? Length of submitted work? What are the qualities of winning samples?

2. Write an outline

The worst thing that could happen if you do so is that-oops, I think this idea does not work that well, lemme try another one. IF you don't do outline, terrible things shall happen.....

3. Revise drafts

Stephen King once said something about every first draft looks bad. So, revise them again and again. Show them to your peers and teachers and ask for valuable feedback. Don't be shy :-)

Here are some prestigious writing competitions one could consider:

  1. Scholastic Arts & Writing Competitions

2. New York Times Writing Contests

3. John Locke Writing Competition

4. Harvard International Review Competition

Good Luck!
